Mattress deals are everywhere right now, but I say sleep is overrated compared to upgrading your home entertainment setup. Amazon’s Presidents Day sale is packed with unexpected deals that will take your home theater to the next level — which all starts with your screen.

When it comes to how you watch your favorite movies, shows, and live sports, the merits of size versus resolution can be argued endlessly. Traditional TV sets offer a crystal-clear picture and simple setup, but projectors can give you a much bigger wow factor in a far cheaper package.

This Nebula Capsule 3 Projector that’s $400 on sale right now is a prime example. It gives you a 120-inch picture in full HD for less money than some 60-inch TVs and tops the biggest TV you can buy at Amazon, a TCL 115-inch 4K TV that costs $20,000.

Nebula Capsule 3 1080p Projector, $400 with Prime

Pros

  • Built-in Google TV streaming software

  • Can run on battery for outdoor viewing

  • Automatic focus and setup

Cons

  • Doesn’t support 4K resolution

  • Needs a dark room for best picture

  • Limited input and output options

The Nebula’s resolution maxes out at 1080p full HD (i.e., not 4K) but in my experience with projectors, that’s all you need to be immersed, especially if you’re watching in a dark room. It weighs less than 2 pounds, stands 21 inches tall, and can run on battery for over 2 hours. “The picture is clear and crisp,” wrote one five-star reviewer who said it looks best in the dark but “still works during the day or with a light on in the room.”

If 4K resolution is a must, I’ve been testing an Awol Vision Projector, which makes a 150-inch image that looks great even in a bright room — but amazing in a dark one. It’s still cheaper than most 4K TVs that are 90 inches and up, and it’s $800 off right now.

Hisense 100-Inch 4K Google Smart TV

Amazon

This 100-inch Hisense 4K TV is one of the biggest on the market and is fairly priced for its size, although many people will still find the current sale price of nearly $3,000 too expensive to justify. Amazon buyers rave about the picture quality and automatic color settings that adjust based on the type of content you’re watching.

While I love projectors for watching movies and sports — especially if you like to watch with other people — TVs like this one are better for getting the most from high-performance gaming consoles like Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Two of this set’s four HDMI ports support a 144Hz refresh rate, which gamers say makes a huge difference during fast-paced play. “This TV is worth it in any size if you game,” said a five-star reviewer.

While its size is the top selling point, it’s also a drawback. At nearly 160 pounds without its legs attached, this monster is too heavy for most wall mounts to support.

Resolution: 4K | Audio Outputs: HDMI eARC, Digital Optical, 3.5mm Aux, Bluetooth | Inputs: HDMI, AV, Coaxial, USB-A, LAN | Weight: 157.2 pounds

There are great things about TVs and projectors and drawbacks about each option, too. No matter which you choose, you’ll be more immersed than ever in whatever you’re watching or playing. Getting one at Amazon’s Presidents Day sale prices makes it even sweeter.
