When it comes to winter weather dressing, Kate Middleton and a long red coat are about as simpatico as it gets.
On a chilly South Wales day on February 26, the Princess of Wales stepped out in Pontypridd with her husband, Prince William, wearing what looked like her double-breasted Alexander McQueen coat, which she debuted in 2020 and has worn several times since, including at her “Together at Christmas” carol concert at Westminster Abbey last December. This time around, Kate accessorized her red coat with a yellow daffodil lapel pin; the daffodil is the national flower of Wales, and is often worn on St. David’s Day.
Kate is a fan of the rewear, which is in line with the royal family’s commitment to sustainability, ethos shared by William and his father, King Charles. (After all, William founded The Earthshot Prize, a commitment to come up with environmental solutions for the planet, in 2020.)
The Prince and Princess of Wales visited South Wales on Wednesday ahead of the national holiday, St. David’s Day, on March 1, where they met members of the community affected by severe flooding caused by Storm Bert and Storm Darragh in December, according to Hello!. The day also saw the couple visit Ponypridd Market to tour the food hall and put their baking skills to use preparing a batch of Welsh cakes. Their busy day also saw the two take a tour of a community garden and woodland.
The two arrived by train, according to People, and posted footage walking on a platform with the geotag “Cardiff, Wales” on their Instagram Story. Ahead of their visit to The Welsh Cake Shop—where People reported they “sported aprons as they flipped and cooked the scone-like cakes”—owner Theresa Conner told the outlet “Apparently, Kate is a very keen baker, and she is going to try her hand and make some with us.”
“A lot of our customers are very excited about it and are here trying to get a glimpse of them,” she added.
William and Kate were made Prince and Princess of Wales one day after William’s father, King Charles, took the throne in September 2022. Since then, the couple has visited Wales several times, individually, as a couple, and occasionally with their kids.
