The king is now spending more time at Windsor Castle, People reports, which is close to his son William and his family. This has given him a chance to form a “warm bond” with his granddaughter. “He once wanted a daughter,” the royal author Ingrid Seward told People. “I would think he has a very nice relationship with his granddaughter.”

It has long been known that Charles had wanted a daughter since the publication of Andrew Morton’s book, Diana: Her True Story. In it, the late Princess Diana spoke about the process of finding out the gender of their second baby, Prince Harry. “I knew Harry was going to be a boy because I saw on the scan,” the late Princess is quoted as saying in the book. “Charles always wanted a girl. He wanted two children, and he wanted a girl.”

Charles has previously given a nod to his close relationship with Charlotte through small clues. Eagle-eyed spectators previously noticed that the King of England was photographed wearing a friendship bracelet last year, which is said to have been made by the princess.
