If April was all about fresh nail colors, May is when the mood softens. The warm weather is finally consistent (for the most part), and your polish should match that easy-breezy energy. They’re a little bit more indulgent yet still not in-your-face like your summer lineup will be. This month’s trending shades are less about making a loud statement and more about enhancing your natural vibe, like a tinted moisturizer for your nails.

Pearlescent finishes are going strong this month, adding just enough shimmer to catch the light without going full glitter-azzi. Pastel pinks are also in heavy rotation, but this year’s versions lean dustier and cooler. They’re soft but not saccharine, and they look good with literally every outfit.

For something a touch warmer, mocha mousse tones, aka the color of the year, are still very much so the moment. And if you’re itching for a pop of color, coral is your answer. It toes the line between playful and elevated, giving your nails a little dose of energy without veering into full-on neon territory.

Below, the best May nail colors to try out this month.

Earthy Greens

Sage green and similar hues are still very much on the mood board for May. “Earthy greens have been a hot hit among clients,” says nail artist Priscilla Nguyen. “It’s nearly impossible to scroll through social media for nail inspiration without seeing this color. Use it alone or as an accent color for nail art.”

Pastel Pink

Is there anything sweeter than pastel pink? I think not. “If you’re after a neutral-toned, opaque shade, this one is effortlessly chic,” shares celebrity manicurist Brittney Boyce. “It is soft, sophisticated, and perfect for any vibe.”

Mocha Mousse

If you’re a fan of dark-toned hues, go for a classic chocolate-y shade. “Another popular color this month is mocha mousse,” says Nguyen. “This rich brown hue is a versatile neutral, perfect for creating a warm and comfortable look. It combines sophistication with coziness, making it a suitable choice for various applications.”

Coral

@disseynails

Coral is the underdog of the season. It’s vibrant, fresh, and incredibly cool. “It’s just so warm and citrusy,” says celebrity nail artist Juan Alvear. “Pick an orange pastel like this since it pairs well with the lighter, softer palettes often worn this month.”

Pearlescent

@gossipandgloss

Hailey Bieber was on to something when she made glazed donut nails the ultimate go-to. “The iridescent pearl will add a nice finishing touch to any color or design,” says Nguyen. “Perfect for anyone who is keeping it simple with Spring colors but wants a little extra ‘oomph.'”
