Jennifer Lopez is breaking her silence on one of the hardest moments from her Ben Affleck breakup. The multi-hyphenate, who filed for divorce from Affleck last August after two years of marriage, got candid as she shared how she first told her kids that she and Affleck were ending their relationship.
Lopez, who shares twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony, recalled trying to reassure her kids as she first broke the news of her split. “I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better,’” the “Feel the Light” singer told El Pais magazine in an interview published on May 6.

In hindsight, Lopez proudly added, “I promised them that, and I did it. And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life. I’m happier that I’m a step further along than I was a year ago, two years ago, three years ago…I’m proud of myself for that and I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they’re stronger and better because of it.”

While Lopez told the publication that she’s currently in the “best time of [her] life,” getting there wasn’t an easy process with a difficult breakup in the public eye. “I had a really tough year. Unexpected things happened,” she shared, revealing that she turned towards books, therapy, and self reflection for healing. As she prepares to get back on the road touring, Lopez revealed, “I’m only getting more comfortable in my own skin as time goes on.”

Lopez’s interview comes just days after she skipped the 2025 Met Gala, one year after her solo appearance at the 2024 Met Gala fueled speculation about her relationship with Affleck. Meanwhile, the Gone Girl actor broke his silence on his divorce from Lopez in British GQ’s April cover story, telling the publication that his “temperament is to be a little bit more reserved and private than hers.”
“As happens in relationships, you don’t always have the same attitude towards these things. And so I thought, ‘Oh, this is interesting because how do you reconcile that?” he explained.
