For the first time, Variety will host a Sports Culture Happy Hour, presented by Uber Advertising, on June 17 at Cannes Lions for a curated audience of industry leaders at the intersection of sports and entertainment. The happy hour will feature a timely and insightful panel, “Champions of Sports Culture,” exploring how today’s sports community is forging powerful connections with modern audiences. From athletes and teams to brands and media platforms, attendees will hear the strategies driving deep engagement with one of the most passionate and loyal consumer groups — sports fans.

Moderated by Cynthia Littleton, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Variety, the panel will feature an all-star lineup of voices at the forefront of sports and media: Olympic Gold Medalist and New York Times best-selling author Jordan Chiles; Tammy Henault, Chief Marketing Officer of the NBA; Jess Ling, Executive Vice President of Global Brand Advertising at American Express; Georgie Jeffreys, Head of Marketing, Uber in the US and Canada; and Olympic Gold Medalist and Team USA long jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall. This dynamic conversation will examine the evolving landscape of sports marketing and collaboration, and the cultural impact athletes and organizations have beyond the field.

“Sports and athletes are a powerful cultural magnet. People gather to build community around sports moments — on or off the field — because audiences love epic experiences,” said Kristi Argyilan, Global Head of Uber Advertising. “We’re teaming up with Variety to explore how the sports community is creating meaningful, high-value opportunities for connections with today’s audiences. ‘Champions of Sports Culture’ celebrates the athletes, creatives, and marketers shaping this next era of sports culture.”

“Variety is excited to host this happy hour in partnership with Uber, to amplify the cultural significance of sports and fandom in our industry,” said Dea Lawrence, Chief Operating & Marketing Officer, Variety.

The event will take place at the Uber Villa. Request an invite here: variety.com/canneslionsubersports.
